"It was like a home when you can no longer go home."
Christmas can be a particularly difficult and lonely time of year for the most vulnerable people in our community.
The connections we share – with our family, friends, colleagues and inner circles – are at the centre of how we celebrate this festive season. Without these connections, loneliness can set in, with profound effects on our mental health, longevity and wellbeing.
1 in 4 Australians can experience problematic levels of loneliness this Christmas.
At Wayside Chapel, creating connections and community is at the heart of everything we do. Our doors are open throughout the festive season, including Christmas Day, to make sure everyone feels unconditional love, care and support.
This Christmas, you can send the most important message to someone who needs it most – YOU belong to a community, and YOU are loved.
Please make a donation to Wayside Chapel today. Donate now.

Even the smallest gestures can make a big difference to our community.
You can support people like Josh this Christmas
Tragedy struck for Josh when he was just 18 years old. After the sudden loss of his father, he found himself overwhelmed with grief and sleeping in the tunnels of St James train station in Sydney, across the road from his dad's work.
Every day, he searched the countless faces walking by, hoping that it was all a mistake and he would see his father once again.
To numb the pain, he turned to drugs as an escape. As the addiction grew, Josh felt too ashamed to go home and continued to live on the streets.
So, he turned to Wayside Chapel for support.
He first arrived at our doors for a shower and clean clothes. Not a day went by without Josh giving our front line teams and visitors a kind word and a smile. He started to form connections with the Wayside community.
One step at a time, Josh worked hard to transform his life.
He is now clean from drugs, has a full-time job and a home to call his own. He recently welcomed a baby boy into the world, with his loving partner.
He couldn’t be any happier.
With a heart to help always on display, Josh is a proud member of the Wayside community. From delivering blankets to rough sleepers and helping out at community centres around Kings Cross, Josh found a purpose and connection that he’d been seeking for many years.
"I went from feeling worthless and nobody cared about me, to
I am a person. People do care."
Your support will mean more people like Josh have somewhere they can turn to
when there is nowhere else to go this Christmas.
