A sense of belonging can transform a life.
For years, Will faced stigma for being on the disability pension and not being able to work. Sick of being judged, he put up a protective barrier by isolating himself from the rest of society.
Then he found Wayside. The first thing he remembers is people saying hello to him – a simple gesture that made him feel safe from judgment and immediately accepted. Will started coming a few days a week, taking the long bus journey from Parramatta to our Bondi center and back. Soon he formed strong connections with other visitors and for the first time in years, he didn’t feel judged or alone. When he met his partner Kerry, he introduced her to Wayside too.
Your kind support helps us provide a safe place and thriving community that empowers people to change their outlook on life. A community that encourages people like Will and Kerry to bring themselves out of social isolation and onto a path of healing and transformation.
"It makes us happy coming here. We feel safe."
Wayside provides more than practical assistance for people like Will and Kerry. We provide a community. It makes a vital difference to know they have a safe place and a sense of belonging here.
This environment of unconditional love and acceptance empowers people living on the streets or in social isolation to see the world and their potential in a new light. That’s what a strong community achieves. What makes that community is ‘us’ – our workers, volunteers, visitors and of course, you.
No matter what, Wayside stays open 365 days of the year – even through Christmas. While the need for our services is always growing, our funds are not. We rely on generous and caring people like you to help us meet every single person who desperately needs us, every day of the year.
