We are the 2025 Graduating
Ensemble of Sydney Actors School, proudly presenting The Wayside Bride by
Alana Valentine — a powerful Australian verbatim play that celebrates love,
resilience, and community.
Based on real stories of couples married at Sydney’s iconic Wayside Chapel, the
play weaves together the voices of people from all walks of life who found
love, acceptance, and belonging at a place that never turned anyone away.
Founded in 1964 by Reverend Ted Noffs, the Wayside Chapel began as a small gathering
space in Kings Cross, welcoming anyone in need of compassion and connection.
Sixty years later, it remains a beacon of hope — providing meals, counselling,
health care, and support for thousands of people each year under the leadership
of Pastor Jon Owen.
This year marks Wayside Chapel’s 61st anniversary, celebrating six decades of
love, grit, and community spirit — values that The Wayside Bride beautifully
brings to life on stage.
This Christmas season, we want to carry that same spirit beyond the theatre.
All proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly to The Wayside Chapel,
helping provide care, meals, and support for people doing it tough — especially
during the holidays.
None of the funds raised will go toward our
production. Every dollar will go straight to Wayside and the people they serve.
Members from the Wayside community will also be attending our performances,
making this event even more meaningful.
By donating, you’re not only helping us share these inspiring true stories —
you’re helping Sydney’s most vulnerable people find warmth, dignity, and hope
this Christmas.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
